Improving your home’s energy efficiency can bring you many benefits, like lower energy bills and a more comfortable home. But, did you know that certain home upgrades can also increase your home’s value as well with Pearl Certification?
While there is a specific process to qualify, Pearl-certified homes sell for an average of 5% or more! As the only Pearl-certified contractor in Wisconsin, our team can help you create a plan to start improving your energy efficiency and build a pathway to Pearl Certification for your home.
Pearl sets the global standard for high-efficiency homes by offering a third-party certification that places value on energy efficiency home improvements. Pearl is the only market-based firm that’s approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to participate in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR ® ️program for existing homes, and Pearl Certification can be used as a tool for homeowners to increase their home’s energy efficiency, health, and comfort.
Pearl uses a scoring system that assigns points to home assets based on how they perform individually and as part of your whole home. Assets get more points the more efficiently they operate, and the total points determine what certification level your home qualifies for: Asset, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. The categories in the Pearl scoring system include:
Building Shell - Roof, walls, windows, foundation, and insulation
Heating & Cooling - Furnace, air conditioner, and ductwork
Baseload - Water heater and appliances
Home Management - Smart thermostats and energy management
Renewable Energy & Energy Storage - Solar panel systems and electric vehicle chargers
The first step to getting your Milwaukee home Pearl-certified is with a home performance audit. The team of experts at Wisconsin Home Improvement will evaluate your home to help you navigate the process to reach any of the 4 certification levels. While a Pearl Certification is good for any home, it's especially beneficial if you’re preparing to refinance or sell your home. After the certification process is complete, you will receive a “Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum” to add value to your most recent appraisal.
